ASME Victoria is pleased to announce this new award to acknowledge significant contributions to music education in Victoria.
The ASME Victoria Music Education Award
celebrating and elevating music education in all its forms
The ASME Victoria Music Education Award recognises outstanding contribution, impact, and leadership in music education across diverse contexts. Contribution may occur within the following contexts:
- schools
- early childhood
- tertiary settings
- community music
- leadership
- advocacy
- research
- administration
The award is open to Victorian residents, both ASME members and non-members.
Nominations close at 5.00pm on 20 August, 2026.
Award Criteria
Demonstrated evidence in any or all of the following areas:
- Quality: Evidence of high-quality, learner-centred practice that supports musical growth, inclusion, wellbeing, and safe participation.
- Impact: Demonstrated contribution that improves access, participation, learning, sustainability, or equity in music education.
- Engagement: Sustained engagement with the broader music education community that builds capacity and strengthens impact.
Examples to illustrate how the criteria have been met may include:
- Outstanding contribution across a field/s of endeavour, including music education, leadership and/or support
- Effective and innovative approaches that enable new musical understandings and enrich knowledge, skills, and attitudes in music
- Teaching and facilitation approaches that cater for diverse needs, strengths, and backgrounds
- Working collaboratively with other educators and/or providers of music learning to improve participation, engagement, and/or learning
- Advocacy and/or activism with demonstrated impact at the local/state/national levels
Eligibility:
- Nominees must not have previously received the ASME Victoria Music Education Award.
The Award comprises:
- A framed certificate
- 12-month ASME membership
- Presentation at the annual ASME Afternoon
The nomination process:
- Nominations for the ASME Victoria Music Education Award can be made by nominating a respected colleague, peer, leader or contributor.
- Nominations must be submitted via the online form in which the following details are required:
- Nominee details: name, email address, and phone number
- Nominator details: name, email address, and phone number
- Written nomination statement: 500 words or less, describing how the nominee has met any or all three award criteria.
- Supporting written reference: a separate uploaded document of up to 250 words in support of the nomination.
NB must be written by someone other than the nominee, such as an employer, colleague, community partner, student, parent/carer, or someone familiar with the nominee’s contribution to music education.
