This 75 minute online session is for music teachers who are hoping to move into the leadership level at their school, or beyond, and want to better understand how to prepare and develop their confidence. Whether you want to be the Head of Music, Director of Bands, or Leader of Learning, understanding your strengths, how to articulate your vision, and knowing your ‘Why?’ are essential components to understand and enact.
This online webinar will discuss key components aimed at assisting you with the following:
- Identifying your strengths and ‘blind spots’ as a leader, articulating your skills as a leader
- Know your why, and your purpose
- Refining your understanding of ‘strategic’ and ‘operational’ thinking
- Getting an interview (targeting your CV) and answering questions with conviction and clarity
- Managing time, priorities, people, understanding your ‘circle of concern’ and ‘circle of influence’ and having difficult conversations
Through real world examples, reflection tasks, group participation and various breakout sessions, these areas will be covered, allowing you to go away and start your application for that next role you would love to be considered for.
Biography of the presenter:
This leadership session will be run by Associate Professor Brad Merrick (ASME Victoria) who has had extensive leadership experience in schools and systems for more than 35 years. He has been a Head of Music, Director of a Research Institute, Chaired Curriculum Boards at the School level, while also having led professional associations as a past National President of ASME Australia, past chair of the (Music in School Teaching in Schools Commission) for ISME, and current President of ANZARME (Australian and New Zealand Association for Research in Music Education).
