VCE Music Units 1 &2, Units 3 & 4 Contemporary Performance is a webinar to support all those new to teaching VCE Music and those who are planning to deliver the VCE Contemporary Music subjects in 2026. It is part of ASME Vic’s focus on providing additional resources for Graduate and Early Career Teachers, and we welcome all interested Music Teachers to join us.
In this webinar, experienced VCE Music teacher, Rachel Gorman shares how she has been teaching the new VCEMusic Study Design with her students at Mernda Central College over the last two years. Rachel focusses on inclusive and accessible music teaching for students from diverse educational and linguistic backgrounds. Rachel is the author of the VCE Music Mastery series of textbooks which cover all the Outcomes of Units 1 & 2 and Units 3 & 4 Contemporary Music Performance, and are also designed around teaching combined classes.
The webinar will be delivered live via Zoom with time for Q&A. It will be recorded and available afterwards to ASME members in the members-only section of the ASME website along with previous webinars for VCE Music recorded by Lynne Morton and Mark McSherry.

Presenter – Rachel Gorman:
Rachel has been teaching music, drama, dance and media in secondary schools for over 10 years. Rachel has worked in many curriculum and leadership roles including most recently as a dedicated Performing Arts Learning Specialist, working with staff to build opportunities for authentic and equitable teaching and learning practices in the Music classroom. With extensive experience working with EAL, refugee, low socio-economic, low academic and disengaged learners, Rachel is passionate about accessibility and inclusivity in all aspects of music education, and ensuring as educators our practice allows every student to take advantage of the many benefits we know music learning carries. Rachel’s experience in the VCE space as a teacher, exam assessor and Learning Specialist ensures that all of her students are provided equitable opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
Webinar host – Emily Wilson:
Emily Wilson is a senior lecturer and head of music education at the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne. With over 20 years experience as a music educator, she teaches Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary pre-service teachers. Her research interests include student engagement, engaging pedagogies for arts education, and showcasing Indigenous knowledges through music, which she has published in journals and presented at national and international conferences.
