Written by: Tas Admin

TASME State Conference – Friday 11 – Saturday 12 October in Launceston.

(This is the last weekend of the Term Three school holidays)

Our State Conference is back and we are exciting as we are hoping to have Walt Hampton from the US as our keynote speaker.

Walt is an internationally recognised music educator, known in particular for his work with marimba ensembles and the marimba music he publishes.

He has published three books, Hot Marimba!, MarimbaMojo!, and Son of Hot Marimba which are available worldwide, and continues to compose and arrange music in different genres.

Walt has presented clinics and workshops on three continents, as well as national, regional, and state conventions for AOSA, NAfME and MENC.  He frequently tours and performs with his student groups, Bahuru, Baduku and Rugare, performing everything from Zimbabwean-style marimba to minimalist marimba groove music. For further information on Walt Hampton you can visit these websites.

ASME recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first musicians, storytellers and educators of this land. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, acknowledging their ongoing connection to land, sky and waterways
