South Australia

Quick Navigation

The South Australian chapter of ASME seeks to further the aims and objectives of ASME within South Australia in the following ways:

  • Organising various conferences or workshops in response to the professional needs of local music educators, typically on a Saturday once per term. These events are designed to stimulate and support professional learning and facilitate networking with other music educators.
  • Sharing professional practice through its reporting of local and national events in the ASME (SA) e-Newsletter published at the beginning of each term on this website.
  • Publishing music teaching resources written by teachers – see Resources Hub.
  • Organising the SA Young Composers Awards, which have been running since 1973.
  • Strong and pro-active advocacy for music education with various SA authorities (including DfE, SACE, AMEB etc.)
  • Collaborating with other SA music education organisations (including Orff, Kodaly and ANCA).
  • Providing support to teachers through social media via the ASME (SA) Facebook page. In addition, the Music Teachers of South Australia Facebook group is an initiative begun by ASME (SA) to provide a forum for discussion, networking, sharing and support for SA music teachers, across all year levels.
  • ASME (SA) is a member of the Music Education Roundtable of South Australia [MERSA]
